Otter
Did you know that the otter is a curious, light and mysterious mammal and that Lagoa do Peri, in Florianópolis, as it is surrounded by the Atlantic Forest, is the sanctuary for these animals? Well, Lagoa do Peri has fresh, clean water, surrounded by hills with preserved vegetation, making it the perfect environment for Otters.
According to researchers, the Otter is a rare animal and is at the top of the food chain, but it is estimated that 11 Otters live here in the region. A project in Florianópolis seeks to preserve otters, the initiative comes from an oceanographer who became enchanted with the species. The oceanographer's attraction to the otter was so strong that he asked his father for help to buy an old mill on the edge of the lagoon and stay close to the animals and that was how the project was born 33 years ago and is still active today thanks to the collaboration of ecovolunteers .
