Bernunça
Bernunça, a symbol of Santa Catarina folklore, is one of the characters in Boi-de-mamão, she represents an “evil dragon” with a giant mouth that runs towards the audience in an attempt to swallow them.
According to tradition, Bernunça would eat disobedient or unbaptized children and the child would then become part of his body. During her performance, Bernunça attacks the audience by swallowing children and then giving birth to a baby girl. Its origins are due to Coca, a monster that paraded at Catholic festivals in the Galicia region, now the city of Allaris.
