Magic Island
Many people know that Floripa is known as the “Island of Magic” and it is even justifiable due to the number of paradisiacal beaches and magical places in every corner of the island. However, the name does not just come from its natural beauty, but from its rich folklore and legends that involve everything from witches to werewolves in places very popular with tourists.
The capital of Santa Catarina was colonized by the Azores, and legend has it that, during the European Inquisition, witches needed to flee to remote islands in order to start their lives over. According to ancient legends, some came by broom and others went to the Azores Island and from there caught a ride on the boats to Florianópolis. To this day, there are countless stories of fishermen who have heard laughter on the high seas and had their boats stolen and cast nets damaged.
